Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has announced a formal defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Allied Peoples’ Movement APM, citing prolonged instability and unsuccessful efforts to restore unity within the party structure.
Announcing the defection at Government House Bauchi, Bala Mohammed said the decision followed extensive consultations and reflects a responsible step to provide Bauchi citizens with a viable political alternative amid what he described as an unusual and challenging situation.
The governor emphasized that joining the Allied Peoples’ Movement at the state level aims to secure electoral victory while safeguarding the interests of his supporters and maintaining continuity in governance.
He also explained that members of the State Executive Council have resigned, with plans underway for online membership registration across wards and local governments, describing the move as strategic rather than retreat.
Receiving the Governor, the National Chairman of the APM, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, welcomed the governor, highlighting the party’s commitment to integrity, sacrifice, and service as core principles guiding its operations nationwide.
Dantalle noted that the party demonstrated grassroots strength in previous elections, winning councillorship seats, and described it as an egalitarian platform that respects members while fostering inclusive participation in governmenance.
