NASU, SSANU Embark on Strike Over Unmet Agreements

By Alhassan Haladu Yola.

TheNon-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have embarked on an indefinite strike following the Federal government failure to conclude the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement and other demands.

The unions said the decision was taken after several rounds of discussions with government officials ended without any concrete resolution.

They noted that despite sustained engagement and dialogue, no meaningful progress was achieved, leaving them with no option but to proceed with the industrial action.

Speaking to journalists in Yola, the Chairperson of NASU at Modibbo Adama University, Comrade Sadiya Mustafa, stated that the strike would continue until the government addresses their long-standing demands. She emphasized that union members are workers like any other and deserve fair treatment, adding that the prolonged delay in meeting their demands prompted the strike as a last resort.
