Nigeria Customs Service Adamawa and Taraba vow to tackle Issue of Smuggling across borders of Adamawa and Taraba.

The Comptroller Nigeria Customs Service ( NCS ) , Adamawa / Taraba Command , Garber Bashir disclosed that his command has been diligently reviewing and strengthen its robust activities of economic saboteurs to the lowest minimum.

According to him, he maintained that he want to make it clear to the snuggles that the command will counter every move they make and the command will not relent in this anti - smuggling crusade until they bring smuggling activities to the lowest minimum across  Adamawa / Taraba states .

The Customs Boss made the statement during a press briefing in YOla , which he said , ( the command's anti - smuggling operations unit efforts has continued to yield positive results through swift intervention of the officers that led to the uncovered the illicit trade arrangements by some economic saboteurs.

" The Smugglers on sighting our officers , ran away and abandoned their 85 drums filled with PMS and another seven hundred and ninety - five ( 795  x 25 L ) Jerry cans of PMS were discovered In a bush path at location in Sahuda , Nigeria/ Cameroon border in the early hours of Saturday, 6 th July, 2024 , " he declared .

Comptroller Garbar still stated that Adamawa  / Tarabar command is doing everything with in the law to end smuggling and all the unlawful trade practices along the command's border lines which is in accordance of their core mandate that ranges from Revenue generation, trade facilitation and reduction of smuggling inter alia as stipulated in section of NCS Act 2023.

Still said, the command has repositioned all machineries with in its areas of operation in collaboration with other sister agencies for effective border management activities.

He further expressed that the Nigeria Customs Service is focused on growing economy by improving trade facilitation in the country according to the global best practice.

The Customs Boss said , " the command within the same period intercepted a Carine E car with a hidden compartment loaded with PMS following credible information along Girei - wuro Boki axis on Saturday, 6 th July, 2024 at about 1100 hrs and other numerous records of successful operations across the command's frontiers .

He pointed out that the command will remain committed to sustain this momentum, he noted that the command recorded seventeen ( 17 ) , seizures of various items during the period under review with aggregate Duty Paid Value ( DPV ) of thirty - six - hundred and forty - two naira fifty kobo only ( # 36,952,342.50 ) .

Adding that the seized goods are 43,935 litres of Premium motor spirit ( PMS ) packed in 1,071 X 251 Jerry cans and 85 x 200 L drums , one used Tricycle, one used motor cycle and, two used Vehicles with one having a hidden compartment, the means of conveyance of some of the seized PMS.

He called on the general public to support the efforts of the Customs command by reporting any suspicious activities on time as the fight is not one man business but combined efforts to end smuggling and promote economic growth across the nation.
