The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Adamawa State University Mubi Branch, has urged Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to implement the agreed payment of the “KATA" Allowance within one week or face industrial action.

Addressing journalists in Mubi, Branch Chairman, Dr. Godwin Boniface, said lecturers in federal universities have been receiving the same allowance since January 2026, noting that both federal and state universities fall under the National Universities Commission, NUC, hence the agreement was jointly negotiated.

According to him, the allowance is critical to supporting teaching, and learning process thereby boosting academic output at the academic institution.

"Failure to pay the allowance would demoralize lecturers’ morale and compromise the quality of education".

Dr. Boniface who acknowledged Governor Fintiri’s performance in paying academic staff salaries higher than the federal scale called on him to hasten the payment of KATA Allowance.

He also commended the strong working relationship between the Vice-Chancellor and the Governor in tackling institutional challenges.

He disclosed that a joint committee of federal and state vice-chancellors have been set up to facilitate the implementation, which According to him played a critical role in strethening a cordial relationship between ADSU management and Federal universities and both sides are discussing practical ways to pay the allowance.

However, Dr. Boniface said a two-week ultimatum was issued for the implementation, with one week already gone.

“If the agreement is not honoured within the remaining period, ASUU members will have no choice but to embark on strike, in line with national body directives".
