Residents of Adamawa State have been advised to register for their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The call was made by Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammed, 86, Chairman of the Northern Traders Association of Nigeria, while addressing journalists in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

Alhaji Muhammed said he is set to organize awareness campaigns among traders across various markets to enlighten them on the importance of voter registration and active participation in the forthcoming elections.

He appealed to parents to encourage their children, particularly those who have attained the age of 18, to register for their PVCs, noting that it would empower them to elect credible leaders in 2027.

The traders’ leader stressed the need for eligible citizens to take voter registration seriously and advised those facing challenges to approach the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for solutions.

Alhaji Muhammed further urged religious leaders, traditional rulers, and community heads to sensitize their followers on the importance of voter registration, adding that such efforts would boost turnout.

He also called on youths, especially new voters and those who have relocated to new communities, to ensure they register with INEC to secure their voting rights.

In his remarks, he appealed to INEC to step up public enlightenment campaigns in collaboration with religious institutions, civil society groups, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders. He suggested that awareness should be extended to mosques, churches, markets, motor parks, and other public places to ensure wider participation.

Alhaji Muhammed emphasized that mass registration would not only guarantee smooth conduct of the elections but also strengthen democracy and good governance.
