‎North-East Hunters’ Association Pledges Support to Security Agencies to End Farmer–Herder Conflicts

By Alhassan Haladu Yola.

‎The Hunters’ Association in the North-East has pledged its full cooperation and support to security agencies to ensure lasting peace between farmers and herders across the region.

‎The Chairman of the Hunters’ Association in Adamawa State and the North-East zone, Modibbo Idris Usman Tola, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

‎Modibbo Idris said the association is ready to assist security agencies in various ways to prevent conflicts between farmers and herders, noting that sustained peace would significantly boost agricultural activities in the region.

‎He urged farmers and herders to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead report any suspicious or unlawful activities to the appropriate security agencies for prompt action. According to him, this approach would help foster mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence.

‎Tola explained that farmers and herders share the same environment and depend on each other for survival, stressing that persistent conflicts only harm their livelihoods and undermine agricultural productivity.

‎He further noted that Yobe, Borno, and Adamawa states are currently grappling with banditry, which has instilled fear among farmers and disrupted farming activities. He therefore called on farmers to cooperate with security agencies by providing vital intelligence that would help curb the menace.

‎"I assured farmers and herders that the Hunters’ Association is working closely with security agencies and is fully prepared to support efforts aimed at protecting farming and livestock activities across the North-East." Tola noted.

‎He also appealed to the governments of Yobe, Adamawa, Borno, and Taraba states to equip hunters with necessary working tools, saying such support would motivate them to confront bandits and reduce attacks.

‎"I use this opportunity to advise members of the public to contribute to improved security by providing useful information to security agencies whenever necessary."  He pledged.

‎Tola commended the Adamawa State Government, under Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for supporting security agencies with vehicles and other logistics to enhance efforts at eradicating insecurity in the state.

‎He concluded by assuring farmers and herders that they should go about their activities with confidence, as security agencies and hunters remain committed to protecting lives and livelihoods, thereby enabling the expansion of farming and livestock production across the North-East region of Nigeria.
