Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adamawa Sector Command, CC Ibrahim A. Sadiq, convened a stakeholders’ meeting with officials and members of the Amalgamated Tricycle Union of Adamawa State. The meeting was held following deliberations at the State Security Agencies’ meeting, where issues bordering on the activities of tricycle operators and their implications on the overall security of the state were raised.
Information officer FRSC Adamawa state Command SRC AH Tukur discloused this in a statement made available to Newsmen in Yola.
In his opening remarks, the Sector Commander stated that the meeting became necessary in order to address security concerns linked to the operations of tricycle riders, particularly in relation to crime prevention, intelligence gathering, traffic safety, and public order. He emphasized that tricycle operators constitute a critical segment of road users and, by extension, stakeholders in the collective responsibility of safeguarding lives, property, and maintaining peace and security within Adamawa State.
CC Ibrahim A. Sadiq highlighted observations made by security agencies regarding the misuse of tricycles for criminal activities such as aiding the movement of suspicious persons, concealment of illicit items, reckless driving, and non-compliance with traffic regulations. He stressed that such activities pose serious threats to public safety and undermine the efforts of security agencies in the state.
The Sector Commander called on the leadership of the Amalgamated Tricycle Union to strengthen internal monitoring and control mechanisms among their members. He urged the union to ensure proper identification of riders, registration of tricycles, adherence to traffic rules, and cooperation with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities.
In response, the leadership of the Amalgamated Tricycle Union, Malam Mohammed Ali appreciated the Sector Commander for the engagement and assured the FRSC of their readiness to cooperate fully with security agencies. They pledged to intensify sensitization of their members on road safety regulations, security consciousness, and the importance of operating within the confines of the law.
The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding that sustained collaboration between the FRSC, the tricycle union, and other security agencies is essential for enhancing road safety and improving the security situation in Adamawa State. The Sector Commander reaffirmed the commitment of the FRSC Adamawa Sector Command to continuous stakeholder engagement in the interest of public safety and national security.
