Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State on Tuesday, convened a Security Council Meeting and inaugurated the Food and Agricultural Sustainability Committee to address the ongoing food crisis and insecurity in the state.

The event took place at the auditorium of the Office of the Wife of the Governor in Jalingo.

The expanded Security Council meeting was deemed necessary to tackle the issues of hunger, insecurity, and unemployment that plague the state and the nation at large.

Governor Kefas expressed his administration's commitment to implementing sustainable strategies that will ensure that no individual in the state experiences food insecurity.

He emphasized that priority would be given to skills acquisition and empowerment programs to provide the people, especially the youth, a sense of belonging and opportunities for economic growth to contribute to the development of the State.

Moreover, the Governor underscored the need to collaborate with neighboring states to safeguard the territorial integrity of the state.

He articulated that unity, good governance, and unwavering service to the people are non-negotiable principles that will guide the actions of his government.

To ensure decentralization of power and resources to the grassroots, local government administration will be revitalized and enabled to function effectively.

During the event, the heads of security agencies in the state took turns to brief the gathering about the current situation of crime and criminality and the efforts made to contain them.

They revealed that apprehending bandits is challenging as they blend in with the people, making it difficult to apprehend them.

Therefore, they stressed the need for collaboration with the traditional institutions in the state to win the fight against insecurity.

Additionally, selected commissioners provided briefings on the roadmap to food security and prosperity, as well as the gains made by the Kefas-led administration in the state.

The National Assembly Members from the three Senatorial zones of the state, the ALGON chairman, Aminu Jauro, the Aku Uka of Wukari, and the Chairman of Taraba State Council of Chiefs, the Emir of Muri also added their voices to the meeting.

The Governor inaugurated the Food and Agricultural Sustainability Committee during the event and charged them with developing a strategy to maximize farming.

He emphasized that the committee would add value to one of the five-finger agendas of his administration.

The objective of the committee is to enhance food production through the effective utilization of the natural resources that make Taraba State nature's gift and food basket to the nation.

The Chairman of the Food and Agricultural Sustainability Committee, the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Njidda Tafida, expressed gratitude to the Governor for entrusting them with the task and assured him that they would deliver on the mandate given to them.
