Michika LG Organize a maiden town hall meeting on budget proposal.

Michika local government area of Adamawa Sate has organized a one day stakeholders meeting on it's 2024 budget proposal in Michika. The one day stakeholders meeting was organize by Michika LGA Department of Budget and Planning with support from Oxfam and its partners GIZ, CRUDAN, CEPAD with funding from German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).



The maiden town hall meeting with the theme “Budget of Consolidation and Inclusion” was organized as part of  efforts to improve social cohesion through participatory and inclusive community development planning in 16 wards Michika LGA and provided opportunity for the LGA to sensitize the public on 2024 budget projections and provisions for key capital projects highlighted by the citizens as captured in the Michika LGA community development plan.



While presenting the 2024 budget, the Director of Budget and Planning Mr. Umar Musa stated that the total budget size stood at NGN6,964,537,603.22 with 51%, 5% and 13% of the total revenue expected to come from FAAC, allocation from state government and Internally Generated Revenue respectively. 44% of the total budget has been voted for capital expenditure with 30%, 22% and 9% of this amount voted to Education, Agriculture and Health sectors respectively.


In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Michika local government Area, Rev. Amos Drambi, said his council decided to key into the Citizens Engagement and Participatory Planning Policy of Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Fitiri’s Administration as it is the surest approach to ensuring transparency, accountability and citizens led governance system which will guarantee an all inclusive development in Michika LGA.



He commended Governor Ahamdu Finitri for his leadership style, which has made governance all-inclusive and participatory at all levels in the state and thanked BMZ for funding the Community Development Planning initiative in Michika and Oxfam and its partners for the support accorded the LGA since the period of the Insurgency till date.



In his goodwill message, the Project Coordinator Enoch Bamaiyi who represented Oxfam Country Director stressed the importance of inclusive and participatory development planning in rebuilding Michika LGA after the insurgency while commending Adamawa State government and the LGA for creating an enabling environment for the implementation of development initiatives in the state. The Executive Director CEPAD-Nigeria in his remarks assured the LGA of continuous support with a view to fast-track rehabilitation of communities devastated by insurgency in the northern part of Adamawa State. 



While commenting, the Chairman Michika LGA Council of traditional rulers Alh. Saidu Lawal appreciated the LGA Chairman for the initiative and the executive governor for the quality leadership and encouraged the sustainability of the initiative to bring people closer to the government.



Key stakeholders who attended the event included, traditional and religious leaders, members of trade unions (NURTW, Keke drivers association, e.t.c) PWDs, IDPs, Returnees, members of host communities, women associations, representatives of Michika Elders forum, Market associations amongst other.
