APC Stakeholders in Adamawa Decamp to PDP
By Ibrahim Abubakar, Yola
In a significant political shift in Adamawa State, former Speaker of the House, Mohammad Hassan Turaki, and former Chairman of Yola North Local Government Area, Salihu Baba Ahmed, have left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Turaki and Ahmed, previously regarded as key figures within the APC, announced their defection at the former Speaker's residence in Yalwa Ward. The duo criticized the APC’s state leadership, claiming it had become unfocused and ineffective. They cited a “lack of leadership direction” within the APC and expressed frustration over the party’s alleged prioritization of personal interests over public concerns.
The defections come on the heels of a no-confidence vote passed by other APC stakeholders in Adamawa, who similarly accused the party of failing to address pressing issues within the state.
In explaining their decision, Turaki and Ahmed praised the PDP-led administration under Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, particularly its strides in infrastructural development, and expressed confidence that the PDP is the party capable of advancing the state.
Receiving the new members, Barrister Jibril Ibrahim Jimeta, Chairman of Yola North, commended Turaki and Ahmed for their decision and urged them to work with other PDP members to strengthen the party’s influence and progress in Adamawa.
