A call has been made to both the federal and state governments to urgently support farmers in the North-East region with subsidized agricultural inputs to enhance their productivity and strengthen food security.

An agricultural expert,in North East, Alhaji Usman Suleiman Palam, made the appeal while speaking with journalists in Yola, the Adamawa State capital. He emphasized that farmers across the region are grappling with critical challenges, including the high cost of fertilizer, chemicals, and other essential farm inputs.

Alhaji Palam noted that the situation, if left unaddressed, could further worsen food scarcity and economic hardship, not just in the region but across the country. He urged authorities at all levels to provide subsidized fertilizer, chemicals, improved seeds, and other necessary inputs to farmers to help boost agricultural activities and support economic development.

“The challenges faced by farmers in the North-East are enormous. Government intervention through subsidies and provision of improved seeds and security is crucial for sustainable agriculture,” he stated.

He further stressed the importance of supporting farming as a key strategy for reducing youth unemployment and stimulating economic growth. According to him, stakeholders must unite in their efforts to empower farmers, given the sector's critical role in national development.

Alhaji Palam also encouraged Nigerians to continue engaging in farming as a means of promoting peace, self-reliance, and economic stability across the country.
