Flood Victims Threaten Legal Action Against FG, Mining Firm Over Adamawa Disaster
By Ibrahim Abubakar Yola.
A law firm representing victims of the July 27 flood disaster in Adamawa State has served notice of an impending lawsuit against the Federal Government, the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, the Mining Cadastre Office, and Hydro Resources Ltd.
In a letter dated August 13, 2025, and received by the Attorney-General of the Federation on August 14, Desmond S. Adebole & Co. alleged that Hydro Resources Ltd — which they believe was licensed by the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals to operate in Fufore LGA — negligently released a large quantity of water from a dam it constructed during mining activities.
The release, which reportedly occurred around 3:00 a.m., is said to have caused massive flooding that devastated several communities in Fufore and Yola South Local Government Areas, destroying property and displacing residents.
The victims, through their solicitors, accused the company and the relevant government agencies of negligence and failure to safeguard lives and property, and vowed to seek legal redress if immediate action is not taken.
