The Muslims Council  Adamawa State has secured the release of six inmates and also provided food items to inmates in three correctional facilities located in Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas of Adamawa State.

The council facilitated the release during a visit to the correctional facilities in Jimeta, located in Yola North Local Government Area, as well as Yolde Pate and Yola correctional centres, which are located in Yola South Local Government Area of the state.

While addressing the inmates, the Chairman of the Muslim Council, Mallam Gambo Jika, who led the delegation on the visit, said they decided to visit the correctional centres because the period falls within the last ten days of Ramadan, which is a time when acts of worship and charity are highly encouraged.

He said that was why they deemed it appropriate to visit the prisons, provide food assistance, and also help secure the release of some inmates.

Mallam Gambo also advised the inmates to change their behaviour and avoid actions that could lead them back to prison.

He further urged them to maintain good relations with the correctional officers, noting that doing so would help them live peacefully within the facility.

Jika also encouraged the inmates to rely on Allah, the Almighty, and to avoid anything that could corrupt their lives, adding that this would help them build better and more meaningful lives.

In a sermon he delivered, Alhaji Umar Bappari Kem urged the inmates to turn to Allah in all matters and to repent sincerely so that they could achieve success in life and improve their future.

Similarly, the Assistant Secretary for Media of the council, Muhammed Tukur, stated that since many of the inmates are youths, they should focus on improving their lives instead of engaging in criminal activities.

The Controller of the Yola South Correctional Centre, CSC Kassam, expressed gratitude to the Muslim  Council for the visit and the assistance they provided, assuring that the donated items would be used appropriately for the benefit of the inmates.

Some of the inmates who were released expressed their appreciation and happiness over the support from the council, promising that they would not return to crime and would strive to become responsible members of society.

In addition to securing the release of six inmates, the council also donated food items including rice, sugar, seasoning cubes, and blankets to the inmates.
