AIG AKINWALE SPEAKS ON CITIZEN'S RIGHTS AND LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABILITY AT 2026 GABRIEL ADIKU ANNUAL LECTURE IN YOLA.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 3 Headquarters, Yola, *AIG Akinwale Kunle Adeniran, on Saturday 16th May, 2026, attended and delivered a lecture at the Gabriel Adiku Annual Lecture 2026 on the *theme: “Citizens’ Rights and Leadership Accountability,”* accredited by the Nigerian Bar Association.
Zone 3 Yola Police Public Relation Officer SP Aminu Umar Bashir discloused this in a statement made available to Newsmen in yola.
The AIG was warmly received by distinguished Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), legal practitioners, and the host, Barrister Gabriel Adiku, alongside other notable dignitaries who graced the occasion.
In his lecture, AIG Akinwale emphasized the importance of protecting the rights of citizens and ensuring that police officers strictly adhere to their constitutional responsibilities. He stressed that officers must respect the rule of law at all times, treat citizens with dignity, fairness, and professionalism, while maintaining transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking further on leadership accountability, the AIG highlighted the need for leaders at all levels to remain committed to service, uphold integrity, do what is right, and lead by example for the progress and development of the nation. He noted that effective leadership is built on responsibility, discipline, and dedication to public trust.
The AIG also commended the ongoing reforms and developmental initiatives introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, *IGP. OLATUNJI RILWAN DISU psc(+), NPM,* aimed at strengthening professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
He stated that, the Inspector-General of Police has directed officers and men of the Force to remain responsible in the discharge of their duties, respect civil authority, and uphold the fundamental rights of citizens. He further disclosed that the Force has continued to organize training programmes on legal procedures and human rights standards for officers to enhance professionalism and public confidence in policing.
The event featured insightful discussions on governance, justice, leadership ethics, and the protection of citizens’ rights, with participants commending the commitment of the Police leadership towards accountability, reforms, and improved police-community relations.
