The Adamawa State Police Command has on the 18/5/2026 officially inaugurated the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), a specialized intelligence-driven tactical Unit established to combat emerging security threats and strengthen public safety across the State.


The Unit was established in compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, 𝐈𝐆𝐏 𝐎𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐣𝐢 𝐑𝐢𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐮,  and the ongoing reforms of the Nigeria Police Force aimed at promoting professionalism, accountability, and community-oriented policing.


Police Public Relation Officer Adamawan state Command SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje Stated this in a statement made available to Newsmen in Yola.



Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, 𝐂𝐏 𝐊𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐫 𝐔𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐇𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐧, constituted a screening and profiling Committee under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administrarion Dcp John D Sendere, to carefully identify and select competent, disciplined, and professionally qualified personnel for the Unit. Following the successful completion of the screening process, the selected personnel underwent rigorous training on response to distress calls, intelligence-led operations, professionalism, people-centered policing approach, international best policing standards, and human rights compliance, after which the Commissioner of Police approved the appointment of CSP Clarence M. Lawrence as the Commander of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Adamawa State Command.


The Command's  VCRU is saddled with the responsibility of tackling kidnapping, armed robbery, terrorism, Cult-related violence, shila gangsterism, and other violent crimes through intelligence-led operations.


Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the Commissioner of Police emphasized the importance of the initiative in addressing emerging security challenges and strengthening public confidence in policing.


The CP noted that the Unit is designed to respond swiftly to criminal activities while operating strictly within the provisions of the law, the Nigeria Police Act 2020, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, and internationally recognized human rights standards.


He further stated that unlawful stop-and-search operations, harassment, wrong profiling, intimidation, extortion, and other forms of misconduct remain strictly prohibited under the operational guidelines of the Unit.


The Command equally appreciated the support and cooperation of the Adamawa State Government and critical stakeholders towards strengthening security and improving public safety across the State.


Goodwill messages were received from representatives of His excellency, the Governor, Chief judge, National Human Rights Commission, Public Complaint Commission, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Traditional institutions, Civil society groups, PCRC, Adamawa Eminent persons, and other stakeholders, who commended the Inspector-General of Police for the initiative and pledged their support towards the success of the Unit.


The Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Adamawa State Command, has its central operational base located within the premises of the State Police Headquarters, Yola, with an operational Unit also stationed in Mubi to strengthen rapid response and intelligence-led operations across the Northern axis of the State.
