Governor Inuwa Yahaya Reaffirms Commitment To Free and Fair Primaries Elections In Gombe.

Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring a level-playing field for all political parties and individuals to freely express their choices and attain political positions through democratic processes.

The Governor made this known during a live statewide broadcast to the people of Gombe State on the current political situation, particularly the forthcoming primary elections across political parties.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya stated that the issue of party primaries is of utmost importance because of its implications for democracy, internal stability, and social cohesion.

According to him, a few weeks ago, with the support of the All Progressives Congress Elders Committee and the State Executive Committee, efforts were made to adopt a consensus arrangement for various elective offices.

However, complete consensus could not be achieved due to disagreements from some aspirants.

He further explained that, in the absence of unanimous acceptance of the consensus option, the government has directed that direct primaries be conducted in line with Section 87(2) of the Electoral Act.

The Governor warned that the stability of Gombe State is greater than the ambition of any politician or political party, stressing that there would be zero tolerance for violence, lawlessness, and political misconduct by any individual or group.
