Ahead of the 2027 General eneral elections, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth leader from Adamawa State has called on Nigerians to rally behind former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, citing his transformative legacy and proven leadership credentials.

Abubakar Kunchi, who serves as PDP Youth Leader of the Caretaker Committee in Adamawa State, declared that Jonathan represents the most viable option to tackle Nigeria's pressing challenges, pledging to mobilise youths across the state in support of the former president's potential candidacy.

"At this critical time, when Nigeria is grappling with numerous challenges, Goodluck Jonathan stands out as the best choice," Kunchi stated. He further emphasised that the PDP possesses an appealing manifesto and that Nigerians are agitating for credible leadership.

Highlighting the former president's achievements between 2010 and 2015, Kunchi  noted that Jonathan's administration delivered significant milestones across key sectors, giving him a distinct edge over other presidential contenders.

He started on infrastructure and Transportation where he said;

"The Jonathan administration made substantial investments in Nigeria's transportation network, including:

Railway Modernisation: Revived the dilapidated Lagos-Kano rail line and launched the Abuja-Kaduna standard gauge rail project, setting the stage for modern rail transportation.

Aviation Sector: Remodelled 22 federal airports, upgraded the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, and secured the coveted US Category 1 Certification, significantly improving air safety standards.

Highway Development: Initiated reconstruction of the Benin-Ore-Sagamu Highway and the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway, while pioneering early works and design phases for the Second Niger Bridge—a project stalled for decades.

Maritime Enhancement: Dredged the lower River Niger to boost inland water transportation and commenced the Baro River Port project".

On Education, Abubakar Kunchi explained that,

Former President Jonathan's administration recorded notable achievements in educational development:Established 12 new federal universities across states previously lacking federal tertiary institutions, including Federal University Lafia, Federal University Lokoja, and Federal University Otuoke.

· Constructed over 100 modern Almajiri (Tsangaya) schools in Northern Nigeria, integrating Western education with Islamic studies to address the needs of out-of-school children.

He added that there was also a revolution on Power Sector Reform.

This include,PHCN Privatisation: Successfully concluded the unbundling and privatisation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), paving the way for private sector participation in electricity generation and distribution.

· NIPP Completion: Completed major power plants including Olorunsogo, Omotosho, and Geregu, significantly boosting national grid capacity.

Agriculture

· E-Wallet System: Revolutionised fertiliser distribution through an innovative mobile phone e-wallet system that delivered subsidised seeds and fertilisers directly to rural farmers, eliminating corruption in the subsidy regime.

· Staple Crop Processing Zones: Promoted private-sector investment through new rice mills and the Agricultural Transformation Agenda, boosting food production and processing.

Economy and Technology

· GDP Rebasing: Oversaw the rebasing of the Nigerian economy in 2014, which revealed Nigeria as Africa's largest economy and provided a more accurate picture of the nation's economic standing.

· Digital Integration: Championed the introduction of the Bank Verification Number (BVN) system, enhancing banking security and significantly reducing financial fraud.

Kunchi maintained that Jonathan's experience, temperament, and proven leadership qualities make him uniquely positioned to navigate Nigeria through its current challenges.

"These achievements speak volumes about his capacity to lead. Nigeria needs a unifier, a man of peace, and a leader with a proven track record," Kunchi concluded.

The PDP youth leader called on Nigerians, particularly the youth, to support the former president's potential return to the nation's highest office in 2027.

While Jonathan has not officially declared interest in the 2027 presidential race, speculation continues to mount as political realignments take shape ahead of the general elections.
