AIG AKINWALE UNDERTAKES FAMILIARIZATION TOUR OF TARABA STATE POLICE COMMAND, CHARGES OFFICERS OF THE COMMAND ON PROFESSIONALISM, DISCIPLINE, INTELLIGENCE GATHERING AND ENHANCED SECURITY OPERATIONS

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 3 Headquarters, Yola, *AIG Akinwale Kunle Adeniran, psc, mni, mspsp,* has charged officers and men of the Taraba State Police Command to remain committed to professionalism, discipline, intelligence led policing, and continuous capacity building in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.


, Police Public Relation Zone 3 Yola Command SP Aminu Umar Bashir discloused this in a statement made available to Newsmen in Yola.


The charge was delivered in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, *IGP. Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM,* during a lecture presented to the officers and men of the Command on 3rd June, 2026. The lecture focused on enhancing operational effectiveness through professionalism, discipline, community intelligence gathering, school safety, Ebola awareness, training and retraining in weapon handling and operations, and collective efforts against insecurity.



The AIG emphasized that the prevailing security challenges across the Country require a highly professional, disciplined, well trained, and intelligence driven Police Force capable of responding effectively to emerging threats and safeguarding lives and property.



Addressing the issue of insecurity, AIG Adeniran stressed that security remains a collective responsibility and urged officers to intensify intelligence-led policing, visibility policing, strategic collaboration with other security agencies, and prompt response to distress calls. He noted that vigilance and dedication to duty are essential for maintaining peace and security within communities.


The AIG also highlighted the importance of public health security, particularly regarding Ebola and other communicable diseases. Given Taraba State’s strategic location and proximity to international borders, officers were advised to remain alert to potential public health threats, familiarize themselves with disease symptoms, observe established safety protocols, promptly report suspected cases, and collaborate closely with relevant health authorities.


On professionalism, the AIG reiterated that adherence to the rule of law, respect for fundamental human rights, integrity, accountability, and transparency remain the hallmarks of effective policing. He warned against all forms of corruption and misconduct, noting that professional conduct strengthens public trust and enhances cooperation between the Police and the communities they serve.


Speaking on discipline, AIG Adeniran described it as the bedrock of policing and urged officers to maintain high standards of personal and professional conduct by obeying lawful orders, respecting the chain of command, maintaining proper appearance, demonstrating punctuality, and exercising self-control at all times.


The AIG further underscored the significance of community intelligence and information gathering as critical tools for crime prevention and detection. He encouraged officers to strengthen partnerships with community leaders and stakeholders, protect informants, encourage information sharing, and fully embrace community policing strategies to improve security outcomes.


On the issue of school safety, the AIG reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the Safe School Initiative and directed officers to conduct regular security assessments of educational institutions, maintain close liaison with school authorities, enhance surveillance measures, and establish effective emergency response mechanisms to protect students, teachers, and school infrastructure.


Furthermore, AIG Adeniran emphasized the need for continuous training and retraining of police personnel, particularly in weapon handling and operational procedures. He stated that officers must remain proficient in firearm safety, weapon maintenance, rules of engagement, tactical operations, patrol duties, checkpoint management, officer safety, and public order management. He added that, regular training enhances competence, accountability, operational readiness, and professionalism.


The AIG urged all officers and men of the Taraba State Police Command to remain steadfast in their commitment to the core values of the Nigeria Police Force. He noted that professionalism, discipline, intelligence driven policing, community partnership, and continuous capacity development are indispensable to effective law enforcement and sustainable security.


He expressed confidence that through dedication, teamwork, and adherence to best policing practices, officers would continue to strengthen public confidence, improve security, and contribute significantly to the peace, stability, and development of Taraba State and the nation at large.
