2024 Heroes-Day: ASUU honors 4 Professors of Modibbo Adama University Yola As part of activities for celebrating the Heroes Day, the Academic Staff Union of the Universities ASUU, Modibbo Adama University Yola honored four Professors with awards of excellence. The awards was to appreciate the efforts and contribution of the awardees to the development of the university and the education sector among others. Our Reporter reports that the 2024/2025 heroes day took place at Modibbo Adama University Yola, with dignitaries in attendance from within and outside the state. In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University Yola, professor Ibrahim Umar called on the ASUU to continue with the struggles for the welfare of their members and encouraged them to foster unity among their members to enable them to always achieve their goals. Professor Umar said the union plays a vital role on the rights and welfare of its members. He advised the leaders of the Union to make sure that the union is taking care of its members at all times. The VC also commended the ASUU for organizing the event, assuring them of his support to the union for the development of its activities in the institution. In his address, the Chairman of the occasion, Professor Abbas Bashir said the heros day was designed to "honor our National heros which encourages our younger ones in the academic system." Professor Abbas Bashir explained that the awards was to promote patriotism among citizens and the members of the academic union with the view to strengthen unity and peaceful coexistence. Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of ASUU, Modibbo Adama University Yola, Comrade Dr. El-maude Jibrin said the National body of the union selected 12th of November every year to celebrate heros day and to honor those who are contributing to the academic system. He emphasized that the Award will go a long way in maintaining the education system in the universities to avoid devastating the system. Dr. Jibrin said this year's heroes day celebration committee under the leadership of Comrade Engr. Abdullahi Madu Yami has identified with four members including Prof. D.T Gungula, Prof. K.A Abubakar, Prof, Anna M. Makgwi, and Prof. Ahmed Bawa Bello. On his part the guest speaker at the event, Professor Okoronka A. Ugwunba commended the ASUU especially the organizing Committee for a well organized heroes day celebration. Professor Ugwunba noted that observing day strengthens the activities of the union and promotes the education system of the universities. Speaking on behalf of the Awardees, Professor D.T Gungula expressed their gratitude for the honor, saying that the award will encourage them to do more in contributing their quota in the education sector and the development of the universities, as well as the union across the nation. He thanked the ASUU and the organizing Committee for identifying with them, and assured the union of their commitment to its development. In their goodwill messages, Counterparts of ASUU in Modibbo Adama University Yola, NASU, SSANU, among others commended the committee for organizing the this year's heroes day and called for unity among members.
