In order to tackle Issue of illegal mining activities NSCDC Adamawa state seized bags of monazite in the state.
In a decisive operation aimed at combating the growing menace of illegal mining that has severely impacted Nigeria’s natural resources and economy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Adamawa State Command successfully seized 225 bags of fluorite and 41 bags of monazite, which were obtained through illegal mining activities in Dumne, Song LGA, and Michika LGA in Adamawa State.
NSCDC Command Adamawa state Public Relation Officer DSC Amidu Nyako Baba discloused this in a statement made available to Newsmen in Yola.
To address the rising threat of illegal mining, the state commandant ID BANDE took proactive measures by retraining 100 personnel as mining marshals, who are now tasked with patrolling mining sites across the state.
Their role involves arresting offenders, confiscating illegal materials, and investigating and ensuring the prosecution of those involved.
A significant display of the recovered minerals was also showcased to underscore the severity of the illegal activities and the scale of the operation.
This initiative highlights the NSCDC’s commitment to tackling environmental degradation, loss of revenue, and the destruction of valuable ecosystems caused by illegal mining.
The Corps has vowed to continue its operations against illicit mining, with plans to further enhance surveillance and enforcement in mining areas throughout the state. Additionally, we urged local communities to actively collaborate by reporting illegal activities and remind the public to refrain from engaging in unlawful mining practices.
