Adamawa Muslim Council Calls for Wise Voting at 1448 Islamic New Year Calendar Launch

People's participation in the electoral process has been identified as a key element of choosing for better representation and all inclusive governance. 


This was the central message delivered during the Launch of the 1448 Islamic New Year Calendar, organized by Adamawa State Muslim Council in Yola. 


The guest speaker at the occasion, Professor Bashir Umar Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'a in Nigeria, represented by Professor Rajab Alhaji Abubakar, Chief Imam Indimi Mosque and lecturer at University of Maiduguri, who delivered a paper titled "Voting as a Sacred Trust, HowIslamic Values Guide Us In Choosing Leaders in Plural State," said Islam prioritizes quality leadership rather than dictatorship and sentiment. 


Quoting verses of the Holy Quran to echo his sentiment, the guest speaker also used the medium to call on Islamic and civil society organizations, and the general public to, vote wisely calling on youths to shun social vices in order to become relevant in the society. 


While launching the Calendar, Eng Ahmadu Waziri who is the Chief Launcher, presented the calendar at the sum of 15 million while the deputy chief launcher launched at the calendar at the sum of 10 million Naira. Among other launchers who donated according to their individual capacities. 


Earlier in a welcome address Chairman of the occasion Professor Ibrahim Umar Vice Chancellor Modibbo Adama University Yola,  welcomes and congratulates the Muslims on the occasion and urged them to uphold the values and teachings of islam 


While calling on people to use the upcoming election period to choose good leaders, the Vice Chancellor called on people yet to collect their Permanent voter cards to do so, before the closure of the exercise, to enable them exercise their civil responsibility. 


There were goodwill messages by the representatives of the Adamawa state governor, the representative of Lamido Adamawa, other traditional and religious leaders among other invited guests
