Maulid: Islamic Scholars Urged to Promote Unity, Peaceful Coexistence
By Alhassan Haladu Yola.
Islamic scholars, particularly those delivering sermons and lectures at Maulid gatherings, have been urged to focus their messages on unity and peaceful coexistence to promote lasting peace in society.
Sheikh Muhammadu Modibbo Jingi, popularly known as Sarkin Yaki, made the call while speaking to journalists on the commencement of the Maulid month.
Sheikh Jingi described the Maulid month as highly virtuous and urged Muslims to intensify their prayers, engage in good deeds and give charity to earn abundant rewards from Almighty Allah.
He also called on Muslims to strengthen their love and affection for Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), stressing the importance of emulating his character and following his teachings.
According to him, adhering to the Prophet’s teachings would contribute to improving the lives of Muslims, promoting the growth of Islam and strengthening peaceful coexistence.
The cleric further advised young people and organisers of Maulid celebrations to conduct the gatherings responsibly and in accordance with the law, while avoiding anything that could lead to violence, unrest or division within the Muslim community.
On insecurity and economic hardship, Sheikh Jingi urged Muslims to intensify prayers for peace and stability in Nigeria, appealing to Islamic scholars to include special prayers at Maulid gatherings for an end to insecurity and the country’s economic challenges.
