ADAMAWA POLICE SECURE ANOTHER MAJOR CONVICTION AS THREE SHILLA GANG MEMBERS BAG 10 YEARS EACH WITHOUT OPTION OF FINE

The Adamawa State Police Command has secured another significant conviction in its ongoing crackdown on Shilla gangsterism, as the Chief Magistrate Court II sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, has convicted and sentenced three members of the notorious gang to 10 years imprisonment each without an option of fine.



This contan in a statement by Police Public Relation Officer Adamawa state Command SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje made available to Newsmen in Yola 


The convicts, identified as Sanusi Umar, 19; Mohammed Magaji, 17; and Yakubu Ibrahim, 20, all residents of Zango Ward, Yola North Local Government Area, were convicted by the Court presided over by Chief Magistrate Dorcas J. Mavah, for the offences of criminal conspiracy and extortion.


The Court sentenced each of the convicts to three (3) years imprisonment without an option of fine for criminal conspiracy and seven (7) years imprisonment without an option of fine for extortion, bringing the total sentence to 10 years imprisonment each.


The convicts were arrested by personnel of Doubeli Police Station following a complaint lodged by their victim and were subsequently arraigned before the Court by the Adamawa State Police Command.


According to the prosecution, the convicts, on 9th September 2026, conspired and armed themselves with a cutlass before attacking Bello Yusuf of Anguwan Tana, Yola North LGA, and unlawfully extorting his Smart P-30 mobile phone valued at N42,000.


Upon being arraigned, the charges and contents of the First Information Report were read and explained to the convicts, to which they pleaded guilty.


Following their pleas, the Police Prosecutor applied for a summary trial, which was granted by the Court. The Court thereafter convicted the three convicts and sentenced each of them to 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine.


The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, fdc, commended the officers and personnel involved in the arrest, investigation and prosecution of the case for their commitment and professionalism.


The CP reiterated that the Command will sustain its zero-tolerance approach towards Shilla gangsterism, extortion, street violence and other forms of criminality, while ensuring that persons found culpable are made to face the full weight of the law.


The Command therefore calls on members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information on the activities of criminal elements in their communities, assuring residents that Police will continue to work relentlessly towards making Adamawa State safer for all.

The Adamawa State Police Command regrets to confirm a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on 3rd June, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m. along the Narehi area of Girei-Song Local Government Areas. The unfortunate incident involved a military Gun truck travelling from Gombi towards Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five (5) passengers from Yola to Mubi. Preliminary findings reveals that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, resulting in the commercial bus flipped over and burst into flames. ASUU MODIBBO ADAMA UNIVERSITY BRANCH COMMENCED TWO WEEK WARNING STRIKE.

NSCDC Adamawa State Command Deploys 2,521 Personnel for Easter Festivitie

The State Commandant, Comdt Idris Bande, issued the directive for the massive deployment to provide adequate safety and security for lives and property, as well as to protect all critical national assets and infrastructure within Adamawa State during the Easter period.
