Muslims, Christians Urged to Unite Ahead of 2027 Elections

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Muslims and Christians in Adamawa State have been urged to remain united and work together to promote peace, unity and development.


The call was made as the Adamawa State Muslim Council and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Adamawa State chapter, under the auspices of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), commenced a tour of local government areas across the state.


The sensitisation tour is aimed at engaging Muslims and Christians on the importance of peaceful coexistence, unity and mutual understanding.


The tour began in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area.


Speaking at the gathering, the Chairman of the Adamawa State Muslim Council and Chairman of NIREC in the state, Alhaji Gambo Jika, said the visits were aimed at meeting members of the two faiths and identifying ways of addressing differences that could threaten peaceful coexistence.


He urged Muslims and Christians to remain united and work together, warning them not to allow themselves to be used to cause division within society.


Alhaji Gambo Jika also called on members of the public to remain vigilant as the 2027 general elections approach, particularly during political campaigns.


He advised politicians to conduct their campaigns responsibly and avoid using religion as a tool to divide the people, stressing that peace and unity are essential for the development of the state.


In his remarks, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Adamawa State chapter, and Co-Chairman of NIREC, Dr. Rev. Joel Manzo, said God created all human beings and that there should therefore be no basis for division among them.


He urged members of the public to learn to live together peacefully, understand one another and avoid actions capable of triggering conflict within their communities.


Dr. Rev. Joel Manzo also urged Muslims and Christians not to support politicians who seek to exploit religious or ethnic sentiments to divide the people.


He called on the people to show love and respect for one another and work collectively to promote peace, unity and development.


The CAN chairman further urged religious leaders across the local government areas to strengthen cooperation and dialogue as a means of addressing challenges and resolving disputes that may arise within their communities.


Some members of the two religious communities expressed appreciation for the sensitisation programme, saying they would apply the lessons learned to promote peaceful coexistence and development.


The NIREC delegation visited Mayo-Belwa, Jada, Ganye and Toungo Local Government Areas as part of the tour.

The Adamawa State Police Command regrets to confirm a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on 3rd June, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m. along the Narehi area of Girei-Song Local Government Areas. Police Public Relation OfficerAdamawa state Command SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje  discloused this in a statement made available to Newsmen in Yola. The unfortunate incident involved a military Gun truck travelling from Gombi towards Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five (5) passengers from Yola to Mubi. Preliminary findings reveals that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, resulting in the commercial bus flipped over and burst into flames. ASUU MODIBBO ADAMA UNIVERSITY BRANCH COMMENCED TWO WEEK WARNING STRIKE.

NSCDC Adamawa State Command Deploys 2,521 Personnel for Easter Festivitie

By Alhassan Haladu Yola. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Adamawa State Command, has deployed  2,521 personnel* across the state to ensure a safe and peaceful Easter celebration. The State Commandant, Comdt Idris Bande, issued the directive for the massive deployment to provide adequate safety and security for lives and property, as well as to protect all critical national assets and infrastructure within Adamawa State during the Easter period.
