The Tabbitel Fulaku Jamde Jam Foundation, on behalf of the Fulani community in Adamawa State, has commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his efforts to promote unity and sustain peace across the state.
The state chairman of the foundation, Hassan Ali Soja, gave the commendation while speaking to journalists in Yola.
Soja said Governor Fintiri had played a significant role in mediating between the Fulani community and the Chairman of Song Local Government Area following a misunderstanding that occurred a few weeks ago, which led to the community boycotting Song Market.
He explained that although the incident occurred while the governor was away, Fintiri convened a reconciliation meeting upon his return. The meeting brought together Fulani community leaders, officials of Song Local Government Council, and representatives of the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa.
According to him, the meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss their differences and work towards resolving the issues that had strained their relationship.
Soja said the governor deserved commendation for his intervention, adding that his commitment to peace and unity was worthy of appreciation.
He expressed the Fulani community's gratitude to the governor and pledged its support for efforts to promote lasting peace and unity among all communities in Adamawa State. He also prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the governor good health and a long, blessed life.
The foundation's chairman also commended the Lamido of Adamawa for ensuring that representatives of his palace participated in the reconciliation meeting despite the traditional ruler's absence due to health-related matters.
He prayed for Allah to grant the Lamido good health, ensure his safe return, and give him the strength to continue discharging his traditional responsibilities.
Soja further announced that normal commercial activities at Song Market were expected to resume the following week. He expressed optimism that traders would return to their businesses and conduct their activities peacefully without further misunderstandings.
He urged traders and other market participants to resume commercial activities responsibly and maintain peaceful relations.
The chairman also expressed appreciation to Fulani representatives who attended the reconciliation meeting and those who contributed ideas and recommendations towards resolving the dispute. He equally thanked government officials who provided advice and support to facilitate mutual understanding between the parties.
He urged members of the Fulani community to remain united, respect the rule of law, and avoid taking the law into their own hands, stressing that peaceful coexistence was essential for development.
Soja reiterated his hope that, by God's grace, buying and selling at Song Market would resume the following week without fear or apprehension.
Commercial activities at Song Market had reportedly come to a standstill following a misunderstanding between members of the Fulani community and the Chairman of Song Local Government Area.
